Closing or selling off Aberdeen's iconic Beach Ballroom have been revealed as possible cost-cutting measures as the council seeks save money.

The potential move comes on top of an 11% hike in council tax and a raft of other possible measures.

The Press and Journal reports councillors are being asked to consider three options for the Beach Ballroom; selling it, outsourcing its operations to an external provider, or simply closing it indefinitely to save £150,000.

Aberdeen Performing Arts and Sport Aberdeen could also see their funding slashed, casting the future of swimming pools and arts facilities into doubt.

And even streetlights and grit bins could be affected, with the council aiming to agree £18million of savings in a meeting on March 5.
