School pupils are being given the chance to name new house styles which form part of the next phase of Bancon Homes’ latest development in Aberdeen, The Reserve at Eden.
Children from nearby Fernielea Primary School visited the development this week, where they were given a tour of the houses and adjacent nature reserve as part of a lesson about construction and design.
During the tour, the 22 pupils quizzed Jamie Tosh, operations director at Bancon Homes, on what materials are used to build a new home and which tools are used to construct the development.
The class also learned how Bancon Homes created a new snake path through the Den of Maidencraig, a safe route to school which is built on raised levels to prevent flooding.
Ona (10), from Fernielea Primary School, said: ““I liked the houses because they were big. I thought the nature and wildlife was good because we got to see lots of pretty butterflies.”
The Reserve at Eden offers a range of two, three and four-bedroom, energy efficient family homes, many of which have views over the Den of Maidencraig nature reserve.
“I liked the houses they are pretty and I thought the snake trail was a good idea,” said Chloe (9) and Rosie (9), from Fernielea Primary School.
At the end of the tour, each pupil was given an opportunity to enter a competition to come up with ideas for different house style names for the next phase of the development.
The youngsters will have the summer holidays to find inspiration and suggest creative names before the winner and two runners up are chosen at the start of the new term in August.
The winner of the competition will receive Amazon vouchers, with the runners-up also receiving a prize.

“We are very much looking forward to receiving the pupils’ name ideas for the upcoming house styles as it will create another connection between the development and the school.”
Lisa Walker, head teacher at Fernielea Primary School, said: “The pupils had a fantastic time visiting the new homes and the nature reserve. The Bancon Homes staff were extremely welcoming and answered all of the pupils’ questions about the reserve wildlife and provided them with an interactive opportunity to learn about how new homes are built.”
Situated off the A944 Aberdeen to Westhill road, the development has already proved popular, with buyers keen to take advantage of its quiet rural setting with east access to the city centre.
