Inverurie mum Natalie Mackie was the first to make use of the newly re-opened birthing pools at Inverurie Community Maternity Unit last week.

Beautiful baby Jude came into the world around 3.30am on Tuesday 30 January. Natalie was supported by midwives Erin and Jude, and student midwife Marieta who she had met a few times before the big event. It was Marieta's first experience of supporting a birth. Natalie said: "The team was fantastic. It was such a nice atmosphere from the get go. I look back at her birth and I feel I got everything I could have wanted.

"All three midwives were amazing. It was nice to have that connection with Marieta and know it's something she'll have forever."

While Jude was a name in the family's top three, Natalie also explained that having lovely midwife Jude at the birth "sealed the deal." Talking about how much she enjoyed being in the birthing pool, Natalie explained: "I think relaxation wise it helped. It's much more freeing and if you want to move position it's a lot easier. If I was ever to have another, it would be a water birth."

Huge congratulations to Natalie, her partner Stuart, big brother Oscar and auntie Laura, who was also there to support baby Jude's arrival. You can find out more about options for birth on NHS Grampian's Birth In Grampian website: Birth in Grampian – Birth in Grampian (scot.nhs.uk)
