Azets, a leading provider of financial and strategic advisory services, has recently welcomed five graduates, seven placement students and three interns to the Aberdeen office, as part of the company’s aim to invest in the next generation of talented business advisors within the local area.

Established in 2016, Azets Aberdeen offers various career path opportunities for early professionals, with the option to work for the company across different parts of the country and to develop specialist skills in diverse areas of accounting and business advisory, from general practice and tax to corporate finance, trade and restructuring.

The graduate route is a three-year programme, with students studying towards their chartered accountancy qualification (ICAS, CTA or ACCA). This summer, Azets Aberdeen welcomed its first three summer interns, which allowed the students to gain new skills and experience within the finance profession before they returned to university to complete their studies. The seven one-year placement students have been benefiting from the company’s extensive experience and diverse client work before they return to Robert Gordon University to embark on their fourth year studies.

Azets Aberdeen continues to invest significantly in placement students from RGU, interns from the University of Aberdeen, local school leavers and graduates, as the company focuses on shaping the next generation of accounting, audit and tax talent in the area.

Azets’ school leaver route is a two-year programme leading to the student becoming qualified in their AAT, with the potential to then move on to their chartered accountancy qualification (ACCA, CTA or ICAS). A school leaver apprenticeship with Azets and its training partners provides a bespoke programme that combines qualifications, skills, and behaviours training.

Since establishing the Aberdeen office, a total of around 70 graduates, placement students, school leavers/apprentices and interns have been hired and trained by the team.

David Booth, Regional Managing Partner at Azets in Aberdeen, said: “We are always delighted to welcome additional new talent into the Aberdeen office - Azets believes in fostering a culture of continuous learning and development, and we recognise the benefits of implementing this from the earliest stages of an employee’s career.

“Within the Aberdeen office, we are proud to offer a wide variety of career routes - the graduate programme is designed to provide a platform for emerging talent to thrive as they begin their professional journey, while the school leavers programme is well structured for providing young people with a valuable opportunity to gain experience, practical skills and professional development from day one. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between education and the workplace, empowering school leavers to embark on fulfilling career paths.

“Investment in the next generation of talented business advisors is a key development strategy for

Azets Aberdeen as we continue to expand and achieve our ambitious growth targets of doubling in size within the next four years. It is important to our progression that we remain committed to investing locally, creating job opportunities at our Aberdeen office and being part of our surrounding community.”

Next month (October 2024), the recruitment process for placement students and graduates opens again, aimed at attracting potential candidates who are keen to join the team following their graduation next year or for work experience whilst completing their university course.

Current employee of Azets Aberdeen, Kieran Strachan, joined as a Graduate student in 2021 and is now an Assistant Manager.

He said: “Over the past three years, Azets has provided me with several opportunities and experiences which have enabled me to achieve my own professional and personal goals. During this time I have worked with a number of clients across different industries, which has made it an enjoyable and varied experience. Whilst working full time, Azets has also supported me in completing my Professional Chartered Accountancy Exams. Everyone is friendly and supportive and someone is always there to help. Working at Azets has exceeded my expectations.”
