Aurora Planning supports multi-million pound housing development at Hill of Rubislaw

Aurora Planning Limited has submitted a planning application for 299 private rented sector flats at the Hill of Rubislaw, Aberdeen, on behalf of Canada based Carttera Private Equities Limited, working with Rubislaw Estates and other Aberdeen based businesses.

The application includes a new heritage bistro that will celebrate the history of Rubislaw Quarry, as well as a public walkway which will allow access, for the first time, to one of Aberdeen’s best known but most hidden assets.

Aberdeen City Council and the Scottish Government have accorded priority to the delivery of more new housing, both to support sustainable economic growth and to improve quality of life for residents. The Scottish Government has also specifically highlighted the potential for the private rented sector to complement existing housing models and increase the overall housing delivery rate. Particular benefits of private rented sector housing cited by the Scottish Government are:

  • supporting key economic sectors (particularly in cities);
  • enhancing the attractiveness of Scotland for new and different developers and long-term investors;
  • supporting labour market mobility;
  • encouraging high quality design (because of the long term interests of owners in the management and maintenance of the buildings); and
  • rapidly creating a sense of place (due to speed of delivery).

Given the high quality of the multi-million pound proposals for the Hill of Rubislaw, including the very striking architecture, this development is expected to deliver all of these benefits and more for Aberdeen.

It is hoped that the application will be determined by the council before the summer recess.
