Artist James Prosek and Writer Jim Crumley – In Conversation

The Barn is delighted to host a talk by American artist James Prosek, who will present an overview of his artwork and its focus on the natural world in the company of acclaimed Scottish writer and nature writer Jim Crumley.

Born and raised in Easton, Connecticut, artist, writer, and naturalist James Prosek made his authorial debut as a nineteen-year-old Junior at Yale University with Trout: an Illustrated History (Alfred A. Knopf, 1996), which featured seventy of his watercolor paintings of the trout of North America. Subsequently, Prosek won a Peabody Award in 2003 for his documentary about traveling through England in the footsteps of Izaak Walton, the seventeenth-century author of The Compleat Angler.

James is currently participating in a residency programme based in Upper Deeside, supported by The Fife Arms.

Jim Crumley is a nature writer, journalist, and poet with 35 books to his name. Described by the Los Angeles Times as "The best nature writer working in Britain today" Jim will bring his knowledge of Scottish wildlife, to what promses to be a fascinating and entertaining discussion around art, nature and landscape.

The evening’s discussion will be facilitated by Mark Hope Co-Chair of Woodend Arts Ltd and Aberdeenshire-based artist Mel Shand.
