Staff at law firm Pinsent Masons’ Aberdeen office are saddling up with international colleagues for a week-long charity push which will see them pedal almost 25,000 miles - the equivalent of an around-the-world cycle – over seven days.
The WE Cycle the World challenge is the firm's first globally coordinated charity event in which staff from each of its 24 international offices will collectively cycle thousands of miles.
Twenty five per cent of the funds raised in Aberdeen will go to local youth charity and social enterprise Transition Extreme, with the remainder donated to WE, which champions the empowerment of communities to lift themselves out of poverty.
Four static bicycles have been set up in firm’s Queen’s Road office with staff encouraged to clock up the miles whenever they have some spare time, while bike owners have been asked to cycle as much as possible out with their working day.
Sport Aberdeen have kindly donated the use of the four bikes taken from their sports centres across the city and a Health and Wellbeing coach has provided health and safety tips to the Pinsent Masons pedalers.
Pinsent Masons partner, Rodney Whyte, said: “I am confident our Aberdeen team will do more than their fair share of contributing to our firm-wide 24,901 miles target, which is the equivalent of cycling around the world.
“Thanks to support from Sport Aberdeen, staff who don’t own a bike will be able to hop on and off the static bikes during lunch breaks and whenever they have five minutes to spare.
“We are delighted to be able to support Transition Extreme, with which we have a long-standing association and the global charity efforts of WE, and we should also reap the benefits of becoming healthier and fitter in the process.”
Kate Pantin, associate director at WE Charity added: "WE is incredibly proud to partner with Pinsent Masons. Thanks to their generous support, we are able to provide even more communities in India and Kenya with sustainable clean water solutions like wells and hand pumps, as well as empowering young people here in the UK to take action on local and global issues, through our WE Schools programme. We will be cheering on Pinsent Masons as they undertake this impressive fundraiser and wish all of their offices the very best of luck."
