Following the success of its inaugural Energy Futures Conference and Exhibition in 2022, Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) has partnered with the Society of Petroleum Engineers Aberdeen Section (SPE Aberdeen) to launch its next event, the Scottish Energy Futures Conference.
Taking place on March 4-5, 2025 at Aberdeen’s P&J Live, the event will focus on how the industry can create and deploy the technologies necessary to make the energy transition happen.
A call for conference speakers is now open, with those interested in presenting invited to submit a 200-word abstract for consideration for the event programme.
Submissions can include case studies, lessons learned or experiences that relate to a range of topics in the renewables and low-carbon sectors, including renewable power supply, hydrogen production and use, tidal power and geothermal energy, among others.
The event will also feature an exhibition space for organisations in the energy sector to showcase their latest technologies, with start-up companies and academics being encouraged to apply to take part in the event’s ‘Techbyte’ pitches; short presentations designed to highlight new and emerging innovations.
Submissions for speaker abstracts and the ‘Techbyte’ pitches close on Friday, November 15, 2024, with exhibition packages now available to book.
The event committee will be co-chaired by Jean Morrison MBE, AREG chairperson, and Ian Phillips, chairman of SPE Aberdeen. Jean said that the Scottish Energy Futures Conference will provide a great opportunity to reflect on the positive steps already taken by the UK energy industry, while looking at what still needs to be done to fully decarbonise the country’s energy system.
She added: “We are excited to launch the first Scottish Energy Futures Conference, building on the positive momentum from our inaugural Energy Futures Conference and Exhibition in 2022. The upcoming event will be held at a critical time for the Scottish energy sector, with many projects taking shape across the country that will allow Scotland to cement its position as a true leader in the global energy transition.
“But the transition cannot happen in isolation, we must come together to create real, lasting change. With our call for speakers, exhibitors and sponsors now live, we hope that organisations from across the energy and technology sectors will join us as we establish a platform to discuss what need to be done to meet our net zero targets.”
Ian said: “This event comes at a pivotal moment for the energy sector. Although renewables are developing fast, we still depend heavily on oil and gas and coal to power our lives – in particular to ‘fill in the gap’ when renewables are not available – and to power the millions of petrol and diesel cars still on our roads.
“This event focuses on what is actually being done in the sector to shape our decarbonisation journey, namely reducing offshore emissions by re-powering platforms, delivering more offshore wind, generating hydrogen at scale, and examining emerging low carbon energy technologies. Assembled by practitioners in the energy transition, this event promises to inform and help shape our energy future – even if the eventual energy system is uncertain right now.”
Prior to the conference, AREG and SPE Aberdeen will host a keynote dinner on Monday, March 3, 2025 at the Aberdeen Town House.
The dinner will provide a unique networking opportunity, where attendees will hear from leading industry figures who will offer views on the current and future landscape of the energy transition.
Bookings for the conference will open shortly.
To book an individual place or table for the keynote dinner, please contact aberdeen.events@spe-uk.org. Limited places are available for the dinner, which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
A range of sponsorship opportunities for both the conference and dinner are also available.
