Apple is reportedly in talks to invest in OpenAI to strengthen its ground in the artificial intelligence race.

The investment is part of a new OpenAI fundraising round that could value the ChatGPT maker above $100billion.

The Wall Street Journal reported that venture capital firm, thrive Capital would lead the round, with Apple's rival, Microsoft also expected to participate.

OpenAI has become increasingly important to Apple's artificial intelligence strategy, with the Tech giant including the AI firm's ChatGPT bot to Apple devices in June.

According to media reports, Apple is also expected to gain an observer role on OpenAI's board.

The exact investment amounts from Apple and Microsoft remain undisclosed.

However, Microsoft currently own a 49% share of OpenAI's start-up’s profits after investing $13billion since 2019.
