The Archie Foundation is calling for fundraisers of all ages and abilities to join its annual Marathon March fundraiser and move a mile every day.
Whether you’re a regular runner, want a leisurely stroll, move on wheels or even want to swim, Marathon March is an inclusive event that welcomes people however they want to join in.
The aim of the challenge is to move a mile a day for each day of March, with the ultimate goal of reaching an ultra-marathon distance over the month.
All the proceeds will go to the local charity, supporting babies, children and families in the north of Scotland.
Last year’s Marathon March successfully raised £20,794 for The Archie Foundation, thanks to the individuals, families, schools and businesses that took part.
This year, the charity is eager to exceed this milestone and raise even more funds to support babies, children and families in Aberdeen, Tayside and the Highlands.
In Aberdeen one fundraiser, Robert Chambers, is bravely condensing the challenge of an ultra-marathon across the whole month into a single run.
The 31-year-old moved to the city from Dundee last year for work. After his friend, who works as a paediatric nurse, told him about The Archie Foundation and Marathon March, Robert realised he could bring his athleticism to a great cause.
Having already run five ultra marathons – one as long as 62 miles – this will be his sixth to date, and his first for charity. This time, Robert will be running a continuous 33-mile distance.
Robert said: “Of all the runs I have done, I’ve never raised money for charity so I thought, why not pick a good cause and make a difference? After my friend brought it to my attention, running for The Archie Foundation just made sense, as they support children in Aberdeen – where I live – and Dundee, where I’m from.”
Kelly M. Anderson, head of fundraising at The Archie Foundation, said: “We are very excited for the return of Marathon March this year, as it brings yet another opportunity to raise vital funds for The Archie Foundation.
“The great part about this fundraiser is its inclusive nature, meaning everyone is able to join in and do their bit. Whether you’re jogging with friends, pushing along your little one in a buggy or taking a dip in your local pool, everyone is welcome!
“This is an amazing chance to stay active, get out and about and support The Archie Foundation all at once. There's nothing more heartwarming than watching our supporters come together to log thousands of miles for the babies, children, and families we serve.”
Join Robert and take the first step by signing up by setting up your own JustGiving fundraising page for your chosen Archie region and share your reason for supporting the case, which you can do here Welcome to Marathon March! - Archie.
