Kayleigh’s Wee Stars’ (KWS) annual charity cycle challenge is returning to the beautiful Donside, starting in Newmachar, Aberdeenshire on Saturday, October 5.
Extreme weather resulted in the event being cancelled last year, however, this will be the second time that the start line will be at the Axis Centre in Newmachar. There will still be a variety of distances for participants to choose from with two family friendly off roaders of 12 and 17 miles, as well as their usual 57 miles and the Kayleigh’s ‘Big Star’ 90-mile challenge.
Following the tragic loss of their daughter Kayleigh, co- founders, Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, established the charity to help other families with a terminally ill child to make memories, regardless of their circumstances. KWS provides grants to families to fund specialist equipment, family holidays or just to relieve any financial strain, allowing parents to take time off work and enjoy precious time with their child.
Anna Cordiner, KWS Charity Manager says: “We are excited to be back at the Axis Centre in Newmachar, to welcome back cyclists of all ages to our Kayleigh’s Wee Stars’ charity cycle challenge. We were disappointed that last year’s cycle was cancelled due to the unpredictable Scottish weather, but we hope that everyone who signed up last year to take part is able to join us this year instead. The support we provide to families through the charity is only possible with the incredible support we receive from our local community, which we are so grateful for.
“Everyone taking part in the cycle will also receive a Certificate of Completion, finisher goodies and there is a medal for the little ones.”
