'Differently Sane’ a pupil ran Amateur Drama Club from Meldrum Academy have organised a Back to the future style flash mob in aid of the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research today (October 21) at The Trinity Shopping Centre.
The date is burned into the back of the minds of every Back to the Future Fan as this marks the date of Doc Brown and Marty Mcfly’s first time travel experiment from the 1980’s classic.
Hayley Mullan, age 16, head of the group says, “This is something that we have been planning for a while and since we knew Back to the Future Day was approaching, we wished to do something productive with our love of this series.
“Our plan was to go into Aberdeen, specifically The Trinity Centre, to entertain the public and hopefully raise some money. The Back to the Future trilogy has been a treasured piece of our childhoods; we want to give a little back to a series that gave us so much joy and to entertain some people for a few minutes of their day.”
Fox was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's disease in 1991. Upon disclosing his condition in 1998, he committed himself to the campaign for increased Parkinson's research. The Michael J. Fox Foundation, launched in 2000, is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. It is the largest non-profit funder of Parkinson’s drug development in the world, the Foundation has galvanized the search for a cure for Parkinson’s disease, and Michael is widely admired for his tireless work as a patient advocate.*
Linda Stewart, General Manager comments, “We are thrilled to be able to help ‘Differently Sane’ with their fundraising efforts and encourage our customers to come past and support the drama group and raise funds for a worthy cause. We also encourage anyone coming along to help participate.”
