ALM Safety Training Ltd recently assisted Brampton Electrical Services in Longtown, Cumbria with their health and safety systems which enabled them to achieve their SMAS Worksafe Scheme.

The SMAS (Safety Management Assessment Specialists) provides a fast, efficient and cost effective route to achieving accreditation with an SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) Member Scheme for contractors wishing to work with the UK’s largest housebuilders and construction companies including Persimmon Homes, Miller Homes and Cala Homes to name but a few. The SMAS Worksafe Certificate is also accepted by many other companies who adopt an SSIP approach to Health and Safety Accreditation.

ALM Safety Training Ltd concentrated on developing a simple health and safety system which met the needs of Brampton Electrical Services rather simply aiming to put a tick in a box. ALM Safety Training Ltd also provided a mixture of training to Brampton’s personnel including IOSH Managing Safely, COSHH Assessment, Risk Assessment, Fire Safety Awareness and Manual Handling, and with it all provided as distance learning meant that the personnel could study at their own time and pace rather than losing time to sit in a classroom.

After Brampton Electrical Services obtained their SMAS Certification they decided to nominate ALM Safety Training Ltd to act on their behalf for QHSE matters on a contract basis including the control of risk assessments, COSHH assessments, toolbox talks, safety inspections and the general day-to-day QHSE matters that their clients expect of them.

Alan McInnes, director of ALM Safety Training stated:

“The SME building contractors want to be able to deal with the larger construction organisations, but this is not always easy. We have helped a number of SME building contractors with achieving SMAS/SSIP certification, but we don’t strop there, we then continue to support them in a cost effective manner that allows them to get on with what they do, knowing that their QHSE needs are being well managed.

"Coupled with our knowledge and experience in CDM regulations including the latest 2015 edition also means that we can provide constructions companies with the CDM expertise including acting in the Role of Principal Designer”.

With Asbestos Awareness training by distance learning being offered soon, ALM Safety Training Ltd feel that with over 25 years' experience working with construction industry companies that they are in an excellent position to help other building contractors with their QHSE consultancy and training needs.
