Albyn School is proud to announce the launch of a special commemorative book celebrating its 100 year anniversary of learning, history and community whilst located on Queen’s Road.
The book, titled ‘A Century at Queen’s Road,’ is a rich collection of photographs, personal stories, and archive materials contributed by past and present pupils and staff.
It traces the school’s journey from its beginnings at Albyn Place to growing its presence on Queen’s Road, highlighting key moments in its history and the impact it has had on the generations of pupils.
“Recognising our 100 year anniversary of being located on Queen’s Road is a momentous milestone, and this book is a tribute to everyone who has walked through our doors. It celebrates not only our school’s history, but also the values and sense of community that have shaped who we are today,” shared David Starbuck, head of Albyn School.
The project, spearheaded by former pupil Rosie Fairhead (class of 1998) and Frances Loughrey, development director at Albyn School, showcases contributions from former pupils across multiple decades.
“We wanted to create something meaningful to mark this important anniversary,” said Frances. “This book is more than just a look back, it’s a celebration of the generations of pupils, staff and families who have made Albyn the vibrant and supportive community it is today.”
This unique publication also captures a snapshot of the present day, ensuring that today’s pupils and staff are part of the legacy for generations to come.
It includes a full school roll and staff list from the anniversary year, offering a lasting record of the individuals who make up the current school community. A special highlight of the book is an exclusive aerial photograph featuring pupils from the school and nursery - a powerful visual tribute to the school’s centenary at Queen’s Road.
“It is full of interesting stories, some of them surprising or mischievous, others nostalgic. We’ve organised it around themes like ‘In Class’ and ‘Lasting Friendships’, and within that we’ve tried to cover all aspects of life at the school, including boarding, sports, music, art, rules, and subjects,” Rosie revealed.
The celebratory book is one of several initiatives Albyn School has planned for the anniversary year along with a number of special events, including former pupil gatherings, a ‘family fun’ day and a specially written musical theatre event.
Due to be officially released in September 2025, early subscribers can pre-order a copy of ‘A Century at Queen’s Road’ now at a reduced price for a limited time only.
