Aiken Group announces certification for product from new division

Aberdeen-based Aiken Group has announced that a key product from its newly-launched division has gained important industry certification.

The company’s new Welhab division focuses on specialist habitats and its innovative hot works habitat has just been DNV GL 2.7.2 certified. The new product, believed to be the first of its kind, represents a new solution for the realisation of a better working environment which has flexibility and durability at its core. All components are sourced via approved vendors and carry the appropriate qualifications to ensure ATEX compliance and certification.

The DNV GL 2.7.2 certification was developed to ease demonstration of compliance and is a summary of existing international requirements which are applicable in most regions. It manages risks associated with mobilisation of equipment by ensuring full assessment before it reaches its destination.

The new hot works habitat from Welhab features leading edge equipment backed and delivered by highly skilled personnel. They can provide turnkey solutions from offshore survey through the bespoke design process to fast, simple installation and thorough testing to facilitate a safe working location within hazardous areas.

Aiken Group managing director Danny Donald explained: “Since the 1980s, habitats of this kind have evolved to become even more robust and adaptable whilst always providing the highest standard of safety achievable.

“Today’s challenge for all our clients is to work more safely in high risk areas, and reduce crew size and time lost by maintenance and project teams during shutdown and production work phases. This flexible technology ensures a safe and efficient method of carrying out potentially dangerous activities in any shape or size of area, incorporating all fixtures, piping and obstacles.”

Alex Doig, Head of Section for Offshore Equipment & Structures at DNV GL (Offshore Services, Aberdeen) says: “We’re delighted to have worked with Aiken’s new division on the certification of their new Welhab habitat project. It is extremely encouraging to see more companies relying on DNV GL 2.7-2 with its inherent benefits, as the standard of choice for the Certification of Offshore and Marine equipment; a clear indication of companies like Aiken’s ongoing commitment to demonstrating compliance with the requirements and regulations applicable.”
