This weekend, Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) is proud to be taking part in Poppyscotland’s annual initiative, which sees iconic buildings lighting up red in support of Remembrance Sunday.
The North-east venue will join iconic buildings and landmarks across Scotland including Edinburgh Airport Tower, Dundee’s Caird Hall, SSE Hydro in lighting up red this year in support of the charity.
The Northern Lights tower of AECC will be lit up poppy red from the evening of Friday 6 and Sunday November 8 in order to pay homage and raise awareness of the Poppyscotland Appeal.
Poppyscotland believe the Armed Forces community in Scotland deserves special support in recognition of the sacrifices they made through their service and they work in order to support ex-servicemen and women of all ages and their families. Some of the work they do includes supporting veterans make the adjustments from military to civilian life and their welfare services include advise, employment, mobility, housing, mental health and much more.
Poppyscotland’s Head of Fundraising Colin Flinn said: “We are very grateful to the AECC for lighting up its tower in red during Poppy Week. This fantastic activity will raise awareness of the Appeal and we hope it will help to raise more money to support our life-changing work.”
AECC’s Charity Champion, Susan Kerr, said: “This is the second year AECC have taken part in the appeal and we hope that it will brings home the great work of the charity and that people will remember the reasoning behind remembrance Sunday .
