A north-east businessman has recorded his fourth hole in one as part of a north-east business golf competition.
Andrew Smith is director of business development and networking specialist Aberdeen Business Network (ABN), which also runs the 5,000-plus member website ABNCommunity.com.
Andrew is taking part in this year’s DF Communications Business Golf League which has seen golf-loving colleagues tee off at courses across the north-east. Money raised from this year’s competition will benefit national charity the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The ABN team of Andrew and Jason Moir took on Garry Russell and Gregg Walker of Nevada Bob’s. Playing at Peterculter Golf Club, Andrew hit a hole in one on the 10th hole – 184 yards, using a four-iron – as ABN went on to win the tie 1up.
Andrew Smith said: “This was my fourth hole in one to date and I’m reliably informed that it’s also the first ever DF Communications league hole in one. Hopefully this can inspire our team to reach the final of the competition. We’ve played two matches so far, won one and lost one.”
“I had to pack in golf four years ago due to a back problem and was told I'd never play again. But having received treatment at Aberdeen Chiropractic Clinic this is my first full year back playing.”
A member of Montrose Mercantile Golf Club, Andrew Smith has been named club champion twice, previously played off a handicap of two and represented his club, town, county and university.
DF Communications, an award-winning mobile phone and communications specialist to small, medium and large businesses, is sponsoring and organising the league for a fourth consecutive year.
Craig Forsyth, sales director at DF Communications, said: “We’re delighted that Andrew has recorded the first ever hole in one since we took on the running of the league four years ago. I’m sure it will act as an added incentive for the other teams as we move closer to the final in September.”
A total of 36 companies have signed up to the competition with matches taking place between April and August.
The Business Golf League is played in a fourball format with five or six teams in each division. The winners and runners-up of each division then qualify for the finals to be held at the Castle Course, St Andrews on Thursday, September 17.
