Academics ask “what makes you well?”

A team of researchers will be on hand at the Glasgow Science Festival this month to explore what it is that makes and keeps people well.

Dr Lisa Kidd, a reader in Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) School of Nursing and Midwifery, will join Dr Jo McParland from Glasgow Caledonian University and Marilyn Lennon from the University of Strathclyde, at the Festival, which takes place at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum on Saturday and Sunday June 10 and 11.

They will be interacting with attendees and families to find out what makes them happy and keeps them feeling healthy.

Attendees will also be able to pass on their answers and thoughts to others using stickers on specially-created poster boards, which the team hope will be full of everyone’s positive influences by the end of the weekend.

Dr Kidd said: “Glasgow Science Festival is a fun and interactive opportunity for people of all ages to have a voice and be involved in some of the most stimulating and interesting research projects in Scotland.

“We’re looking forward to meeting as many people as possible and asking what personally keeps them well. We all focus too much on the negative and what is wrong with us that it is easy to forget all of the positive things in our lives that can benefit our health and well-being.

“Once we collect our responses, we can develop further research projects with the aim of supporting people in different situations, such as those with long-term illnesses, to help them live well and in a positive way.”

The Glasgow Science Festival was launched in 2007 and has become one of the largest science festivals in the UK, where people of all ages can get involved in subjects as diverse as marine biology and quantum physics.
