AberNecessities has been awarded £67,100 by the Scottish Government’s Victim Surcharge Fund to support its work in providing specialised help for families looking to rebuild their lives after escaping domestic abuse.
In collaboration with Grampian Women’s Aid, the charity delivers essential items and care packs of clothing, toiletries, school supplies to children and families who have experienced trauma and upheaval to help them settle into safe and stable environments.
Welcoming the announcement of the funding, AberNecessities founder Danielle Flecher-Horn said: “AberNecessities is committed to supporting local children experiencing hardship throughout the year. Our belief that No Child Should Go Without is also central to our support for children and families who have experienced domestic abuse.
“We are extremely grateful for this funding which comes at an extremely important time given that 2024 has been our toughest year since our launch five years ago. Today, it is clear to us that many more families are struggling in the face of cold weather and financial hardship and the distribution of care packs goes some way to helping those who have experienced emotional and physical hardship in their lives at home navigate everyday challenges with dignity.”
The Victim Surcharge Fund (VSF) in Scotland provides financial assistance to victims of crime through organizations that support them. The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) collects a surcharge from offenders who are convicted of a crime and fined. The fines are paid into the fund and grants are administered by the Scottish Government.
