The skyline of an Aberdeenshire town looks set to be transformed by a pioneering new rocket-shaped 'power tower'.
Ellon-based Film-Ocean has lodged plans to build a a ground-breaking green energy generation plant its facility in Ellon's Balmacassie Estate.
Unlike a traditional wind turbine, the 38-metre tall power tower houses blades inside the structure, and the company is hoping local businesses and residents can get behind the plans.
Its fixed blades harness wind power to generate electricity, and while it looks futuristic, the concept was originally invented in the 1930s.

Film-Ocean say the tower might be more appropriate than a traditional wind turbine “given the location of our site”.
In its planning statement, the company adds: “We believe this is the future of onsite power generation for Film-Ocean and many other businesses in Scotland.”
The statement adds: "We understand that new technologies, in particular something that deviates from the accepted normal, are sometimes treated with suspicion and negative bias.

Film-Ocean is an innovative business providing underwater technology and services the offshore energy infrastructure globally.
Based in Ellon since being founded in 2004, the firm has recently invested over £6million in its facilities and is looking to grow its headcount by 50% over the next 24-months.
