Aberdeen Sports Village appoints new chief executive

Aberdeen Sports Village has confirmed the appointment of Duncan Sinclair as its new chief executive.

Duncan will be responsible for leading the strategic direction of Aberdeen Sports Village, ensuring the award-winning sports facility continues to provide opportunities for everyone in the community, in addition to attracting national and international sporting competition to Aberdeen.

With more than 30 years experience working in the industry, Duncan, who moves from Sport Aberdeen where he was Operations Director, brings a wealth of knowledge to the role.

George Yule, Chairman of Aberdeen Sports Village, said: “The success of Aberdeen Sports Village to date is largely down to the people side of the business in ensuring our best-in-class facilities are backed up by first class customer service.

“Duncan has a solid background knowledge of managing and developing sports & leisure facilities, a positive personality and good communication and people skills, all of which will add further value to an already extremely successful organisation.

“On behalf of our Partners, Board and Staff we warmly welcome Duncan to Aberdeen Sports Village and look forward to him leading us to continued success in the future"

University of Aberdeen Principal, Professor Sir Ian Diamond, said: “On behalf of the University I am delighted to welcome Duncan Sinclair to his new role as Chief Executive of Aberdeen Sports Village.

“Since opening in 2009, the Sports Village has gone from strength to strength, winning a number of national awards and proving hugely popular with our students and with the wider community.

“The addition of the Aquatics Centre in 2014 enhanced its reputation as one of the UK’s leading sports facilities, and I am looking forward to working with Duncan as we build on this impressive track record of success.”

Mr Sinclair added: “This is a very exciting position for me and I’m delighted to be here. I was already an enthusiastic customer and a big admirer of the scale and ambition of Aberdeen Sports Village so it’s great to now be a part of this. The sporting facilities that we have are truly world class and I understand and accept the responsibility to keep raising the bar that little bit higher, something I am very much looking forward to.”
