Aberdeen Science Centre has retained VisitScotland’s Four Star Quality Assurance Award.

Aberdeen Science Centre, an educational charity and visitor attraction dedicated to bringing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to communities, schools, and public, received this award in recognition of its high standards and dedication to quality assurance.

With a 500m2 exhibition hall, corporate spaces, lab, and theatre, Aberdeen Science Centre is housed in ‘The Tramsheds’ – a building originally created as the city’s first bathhouse, later being used to house Trams.

Dating back over 26 years, the Aberdeen Science Centre is a charity committed to pioneering interactive and contemporary programmes that transport visitors, of all ages and backgrounds, to the heart of discovery and learning. Offering science festival celebrations, discovery days, Adult Takeovers, evening talks, and a packed programme of events throughout the year. Aberdeen Science Centre welcomes over 53,000 visitors a year who enjoy the facilities – including a brand new activity garden intended for outdoor discovery and sensory play and providing a safe way to further explore science and nature.

As part of the centre’s commitment to learning, as well as hosting school visits, the centre offers teacher CPD sessions and loan boxes in order to provide teachers with the skills, confidence, and equipment to bring science discovery to the classroom and inspire tomorrow’s scientists. Providing outreach to rural community centres and areas, the centre’s dynamic team spreads their enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics far and wide.

TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, consistently ranks Aberdeen Science Centre within its top ten museums in the city.

Developed and improved for over 30 years, VisitScotland’s Quality Assurance (QA) schemes are world-leading and provide a trusted, independent and impartial source of information for visitors. They allow businesses not just to meet visitor expectations, but exceed them.

Liz Hodge, chief executive of Aberdeen Science Centre, said: “Aberdeen Science Centre is delighted to be further recognised as a high quality tourism attraction serving the North-east of Scotland with a VisitScotland Quality Assurance Award of 4-stars.

This recognition is no small part a reflection of our highly trained and visitor-focused team who are committed to ensuring every visit is as unique as it is inspiring. As our centre continues to evolve and grow with projects like our Activity Garden we can’t wait to welcome more visitors through our doors, enthusing more minds about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.”

Jo Robinson, VisitScotland regional director, said:

“I would like to congratulate Aberdeen Science Centre on retaining their 4 Star Quality Assurance award.

“Our QA scheme helps businesses to reach their full potential and truly shine. The scheme is about more than just the ‘stars’ on the door - it’s about the entire visitor experience, about investing in your business and making it as economically sustainable as it can possibly be.

“It is imperative that everyone involved in tourism steps up to the mark like this, to ensure that visitors want to return to Aberdeen time and time again.”
