Aberdeen Science Centre had a great year filled with high-profiles events, new attendance records and fruitful partnerships. The footfall consequently increased by 9.8% to reach 51,885 visitors between April 2015 and April 2016.
This performance has not gone unnoticed and Kirsty Blackman, Member of Parliament for Aberdeen North, decided to table an Early Day Motion on May 13 to call the Parliament to recognise and commend the work that all staff must put in to ensure that the Science Centre provides an informative and engaging experience for visitors.
The motion (No. 1454) states that the House of Commons “commends the excellent work undertaken by the staff at the Aberdeen Science Centre; recognises that their expertise and enthusiasm creates an informative and interactive experience for visitors of all ages; acknowledges that the promotion of science with hands-on demonstrations and exhibits is brilliant for encouraging young people to appreciate science; and praises the rise in attendance figures that they have seen in the past year.”
Liz Hodge, chief executive at Aberdeen Science Centre said: “All Staff and volunteers are delighted by this support. It has been a fabulous year and, moving forward, we are determined to be a visitor attraction that inspires the community while continuing to both grow our local and tourist visitor numbers.”
She continues: “We have a rich history. However, we owe it to the communities, volunteers and supporters across our region to strive for better, and create a visitor experience that befits Aberdeen’s reputation for being a place of innovation where people can interact, learn, have fun and, most of all, take pride in their city and its heritage.”
