Aberdeen Science Centre has achieved the prestigious Investors in Young People Accreditation, the only people management standard that focuses on an employer’s recruitment and retention of young people.
This represents a true commitment to the training and development of young people and highlight Aberdeen Science Centre as an employer of choice for young people and testament to its effective practices around Youth Employment.
Investors in Young People was born out of a recommendation from the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce. The Commission, chaired by Sir Ian Wood called for the creation of an ‘Invest in Youth Accolade’.
Aberdeen Science Centre has been working for many years with young people and to give them the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills including communication, public engagement and programme development.
Liz Hodge, Aberdeen Science Centre’s CEO, said:
“The whole team is rightly proud to have achieved this accolade which recognises our efforts to enable young people to develop their skills, be inspired and grasp exciting career opportunities.”
“Aberdeen Science Centre is passionate about making STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) accessible to everyone, regardless of age, interest or background. We truly believe that investing in young people and nurturing their talent not only benefits them but also helps us to achieve our charitable goals.”
Fifteen young people aged between 16 and 25 currently work as permanent staff or volunteers, which is almost 50% of the workforce.
