Aberdeen-based consultancy Tricker PR has been shortlisted for four awards in a prestigious national industry scheme – with a little help from James Bond, an ex-England footballer, a heavyweight athlete and a pre-historic sea monster.

Tricker PR’s campaigns for clients across Scotland represent three out of four shortlisted finalists in the Best PR Strategy in the 2015 Scottish Event Awards, while one other campaign is a finalist in the Best Product Launch. The awards celebrate the achievements of the public relations and events industries.

The Nessie Selfie campaign to launch the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running is one of the Best PR Strategy finalists. The campaign, which offers up a £50,000 prize to any runner whose race day selfie is photobombed by a creature later verified by experts as being the Loch Ness Monster, garnered press and television coverage in all five continents.

The firm’s Whisky Heroes survey for the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival also got a nod for Best PR Strategy. Tricker PR commissioned a UK-wide survey to discover which celebrity – alive or dead – the public would most like to share a dram of single malt whisky with. The poll, topped by Sir Sean Connery, captured the imagination of the nation’s media, and gained considerable coverage for the festival, which was held in May.

The search for a strongman to lift the iconic Dinnie Stanes at the Aboyne Highland Games was the third entry to be shortlisted for best PR. A global hunt for a suitable weightlifter to carry the legendary stones – weighing over 733 lbs - gained coverage on primetime television as a huge selection of print and online outlets who joined in the search.

An experience with Michael Owen at the Speyside Distillery led to Tricker PR’s nomination in the Best Product Launch category. The distillery, which is usually closed to the public, opened its doors to the public for the first time ever during the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

Little did the tour-goers know, however, that SPEY Whisky brand ambassador Michael Owen would be acting as their tour guide. The world-famous footballer’s attendance at the distillery caught the media’s attention across the UK.

Managing director Beverley Tricker says, “As an agency which is renowned for a creative approach, we pride ourselves on finding unique and unusual ways for clients to raise their profile and reach their key audiences.

“We are particularly proud of these four campaigns because they put our clients in the international spotlight and introduced their brand to audiences all over the world. It is very gratifying to have our work recognised by our industry peers, but the real reward has been seeing the positive impact of our campaigns on clients’ operations.”

Tricker PR has won more than 35 industry awards including the CIPR’s UK Outstanding Consultancy Award.
