Hundreds of people turned up in Aberdeen’s Duthie Park on Saturday (March 26) in the hope of winning a cruise in popular ITV programme Saturday Night Takeaway.
The crowds braved and wind and rain from Storm Katie to appear on the programme, which is hosted by Ant and Dec.
The Saturday Night Takeaway famous sofa was in the park near the entrance to the Winter Gardens and viewers had to turn up to it with their passport and packed suitcase to be in with a chance of winning.
The programme had given glimpses of where the sofa was but did not reveal that one of the four locations in last night’s programme was Aberdeen until it came to the sequence where the winner was chosen.
Producers chose a few dozen people who had rushed to the park with their passport and suitcase and one winner was chosen at random by former Pussycat Dolls band member Ashley Roberts. The winner was then whisked away in a waiting limousine to join the cruise ship today (Sunday, March 27) going to Barcelona.
Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure vice convener Councillor Jean Morrison said: “It was fantastic to see Aberdeen highlighted as a location even if the weather wasn’t the best.
“About 200 people were there either to try to win or just to see the show’s famous ‘win a cruise’ competition being filmed and I’m sure they had a great time.
“Although it was a shame the weather meant you couldn’t see how beautiful Duthie Park is, it was still great to see it featured on Saturday Night Takeaway.”
The sofa, film crew and producers turned up at the park at about 5.30pm and the show was broadcast from 6pm.
