Deeside Activity Park, Dess, Aboyne, 11am-4pm, Sunday May 6 2018
Aberdeen Lifeboat Station, in partnership with all of Scotland’s ‘blue light’ rescue services and the Ford RS Owners Club, is staging a large scale ‘Mayday on Deeside’ event for families this Sunday at Deeside Activity Park at Dess, Aboyne.
Aberdeen’s inshore lifeboat crew will demonstrate rescues on the loch, while the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter based at Inverness will fly in, land, and host tours of the aircraft for members of the public.
Also on display will be Police Scotland’s police dogs, Scottish Fire & Rescue appliances, Scottish Ambulance, Coastguard Rescue Team, Aberdeen Mountain Rescue and Sandpiper Trust – all with displays of lifesaving equipment and techniques and with experts on hand to answer questions.
Dr Margaret Farquhar CBE, chair of Aberdeen & District Lifeboat Branch of the RNLI says: “Mayday on Deeside is an event for all the family. People can meet members of Scotland’s rescue services, find out more about how to enjoy Scotland’s outdoors in safety, and maybe even learn a skill that could help them save someone’s life.”
Alongside the RNLI event, the North East Scotland Ford RS Owners Club is staging its regional exhibition and judging day with over 100 Ford RS cars expected including a substantial number of iconic Ford Escorts – a model which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2018.
There will be catering outlets on site, including a hog roast and a BBQ featuring famous Cairnton Aberdeen Angus Burgers.
Admission to the event is free, but donations in the car park will go to support the work of the RNLI locally – the RNLI being a charity entirely funded by public donations.
Participation by emergency services is subject to operational commitments. For directions to the event, visit www.deesideactivitypark.com .
