International House Aberdeen, the city’s leading English Language Centre, is launching an innovative new programme to meet the needs of Offshore workers.
The English for Offshore Workers Programme is a flexible, part time option designed to meet the needs of Offshore workers or anybody who faces an unpredictable work schedule. The innovative programme combines both classroom-based tuition and video lessons via Skype, when the student is working offshore.
June Johnstone, Director of IH Aberdeen says: ‘A large part of our client base is people who live and work in Aberdeen. We’ve seen a huge growth in demand for part time and evening class options in the past year. With the job market becoming increasingly more competitive, there are many people from overseas who work in the city but who also want to improve their English skills for the workplace in their free time.’ However, for those who work offshore or have an unpredictable schedule, it can be difficult to commit to regular tuition.
June says: ‘We get a lot of enquiries from offshore workers who want to enrol on an English course but cannot commit to regular courses due to their schedule of 2 weeks on, 2-3 weeks off. We created the English for Offshore Workers Programme in response to this.’
The innovative new programme is a 10 week, part-time course designed to fit into the schedule of someone working full-time, just 1-4 hours per week. When the student is here in Aberdeen, they can attend IH Aberdeen’s English Evening Classes, 2 evenings per week. And when they are offshore, students can enjoy an online lesson via Skype, with an experienced IH Aberdeen teacher, to ensure that they keep up with the topics covered in class that week. This means that students can benefit from both direct interaction with teachers and other international students in the classroom, and also the one-to-one attention that Skype sessions provide.
Students have already signed up for the course starting in January 2016. To join IH Aberdeen’s flexible English for Offshore Workers Programme or for more information, please see here.
