Sir Alex Ferguson is set to return to Pittodrie on Friday 25th February 2022 as the Club celebrates its greatest-ever manager with a statue unveiled in his honour.
Following the official ceremony, the Club is delighted to confirm that Sir Alex will return to Pittodrie for a homecoming celebration at its match against Dundee United on Saturday 26th February.
Supporters will not only get the opportunity to view the statue on the RDS Concourse before the big match, they will also get the opportunity to pay tribute to Sir Alex as he takes to the pitch prior to kick-off to acknowledge the Pittodrie faithful.
AFC Commercial Director, Rob Wicks, said: “This tribute to Sir Alex is going to be a truly unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience and I would urge all Dons fans, young and old, to come to the match and join what is undoubtedly going to be a very special occasion.”
Tickets for the match will be available to AberDNA members and Pick 6 buyers from 9.30am on Thursday 20th January before going on general sale from 9.30am on Friday 21st January. As ever young Dons fans will be able to claim a free U12 ticket through our AberDNA Junior membership making this the perfect opportunity to introduce the younger generation to a true Dons legend!
The bronze statue will be completed and installed on the external concourse outside the Richard Donald Stand and this will be one of a series of statues which are being planned to celebrate and honour Aberdeen FC heroes and is being brought forward by the Club in conjunction with the AFC Heritage Trust.
Plans are being made for a number of supporters to attend the official statue unveiling ceremony on Friday 25th February and further details will be released later this week for what should be a very special occasion for the Club.
