A respected Aberdeen entrepreneur has joined the board of an award-winning North-east organics recycling company to support its continued growth.
Jim Clark, founder of oil and gas waste management company MSIS, has been formally appointed as chairman on the board of Keenan Recycling, which is headquartered in New Deer, Aberdeenshire.
Mr Clark, a serial entrepreneur, has held a number of prominent board-level roles during his career. Over the years he has been chairman of utility services company, Turriff Group; IT Services company, Pragma and waste management firm, Wastepak. He was also a main board director of listed waste management services company, Caird Group PLC and landfill site operators, Caird Evered PLC.
Mr Clark is currently also chairman of Aberdeen-based Clockwork Pre-School Nursery, Nevis Business Park, situated in the Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, and New Pub Company Ltd, which has a portfolio of London pubs and restaurants.
His latest appointment comes following the recent opening of KeenanRecycling’s Central Belt office in Linlithgow. The company, which transforms in excess of 60,000 tonnes of food and garden waste into compost for farming and horticultural use, has invested £700,000 in a new fleet of six lorries to meet the demands for the new service.
To aid with the firm’s continued expansion, BGF (Business Growth Fund) recently invested £2.2million in Keenan Recycling, and Mr Clark will use his sector and operational expertise in the waste management industry to give the board expert guidance and support.
Mr Clark said: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of chairman on the board at what is an extremely exciting time for Keenan Recycling as the company continues to enjoy continued growth across Scotland.”
Keenan Recycling managing director, Grant Keenan, added: “To date, Keenan Recycling has secured food waste collections from around 1000 businesses in Glasgow and Edinburgh, with that number expected to reach 1,500 within the next month. Jim’s vast business expertise is invaluable in his role as chairman at Keenan Recycling, and he will play an integral part in driving further development in the region.”
Mr Clark has also invested in Keenan Recycling, and is a shareholder. Following BGF’s investment, the independent company providing growth capital for small and mid-sized businesses now has a minority equity stake in the firm and a seat on the board.
Mel Keenan, a founder member and investor in Keenan Recycling, continues as a director.
