Council tenants in Aberdeen are being asked for their views on potential rent hikes of up to 15%.
The 2024 Rent Consultation asks tenants for their take on three different proposals for increases.
One would see rent on new-build homes rise by a whopping 15% from April 1 2025.
Another would see rent go up by up to 10% for 2025/26 with a further review next year with a view to a longer-term policy for future years.
And a third proposal is for a change to the structure of the system which would raise rent prices only for properties with two or more bedrooms.
Councillor Miranda Radley, convener of the communities, housing and public protection committee, said: “We are aware of the difficulties faced by our tenants and understand the impacts that any increase in rent may have.
“It is important that all our tenants take part in this consultation and share their views on the impact that these changes may have on them.”
Additionally, renters will be asked about the impact of extending the life of kitchens from 20 to 25 years and bathrooms from 30 to 35 years.
Rent is held in an account known as the Housing Revenue Account (HRA), which is reserved for repairs and upgrades.
Four drop-in sessions will be held where assistance in completing the consultation will be available.
The consultation will be open until November 3, with more information available at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/rentconsultation
