Another year, the Aberdeen City Orchestra and Fountainhall at the Stocket (formerly known as Midstocket Church, in Harcourt Road) deepen their long term collaboration to bring some exceptional music to the West End of Aberdeen.

Aberdeen City Orchestra (ACO) will start their new concerts’ season with A London Symphony on Saturday, September 30 at Fountainhall at the Stocket (Harcourt Road, 7.30pm). A London Symphony by Vaughan Williams; The Walk to the Paradise Garden by Delius and In the South by Elgar will be played during the evening with Chris Gray as the Conductor and Ruth Kalitski as Leader

Originally formed in 1982 by a group of friends, Aberdeen City Orchestra (ACO) has been performing in the city for over 40 years. Since inception, the orchestra has significantly grown in size and continues to attract the finest local talent to its ranks. Since 2016, ACO has been rehearsing and performing at Fountainhall at the Stocket, formerly known as Midstocket Church in Harcourt Road.

Apart from A London Symphony concert next week, some of the highlights of the ACO concerts in the new season 2023/24 will be an exciting Cinderella-themed concert with conductor Tim Tricker that will take place on 24 February 2024 at Fountainhall at the Stocket and a Griegs’s Piano Concerto, where ACO will be joined by Oda Voltersvik, that will take place in the Muisc Hall on May 25, 2024. Tickets for all three concerts are now available from Aberdeen Performing Arts (www.aberdeenperformingarts.com/whats-on/aberdeen-city-orchestra-a-london-symphony/) with free entry for under 18s.

Fountainhall at the Stocket is also home to the newly established ACO Youth Ensemble. Following their debut performance in January this year, players of the ACO joined the Youth Ensemble to perform Siblius' Symphony No.1 together in May. These fantastic young musicians will next be performing on 1 December 2023. Visit the organisers’ website www.aberdeencityorchestra.co.uk to find out more about the Youth Ensemble, as well as the new Junior String Ensemble, both of which rehearse on Wednesdays during term time.

The outstanding acoustic of the sanctuary and the facilities at Fountainhall at the Stocket attracts numerous artists to perform in this space throughout the year. Fountainhall at the Stocket is part of the newly founded Fountainhall Church, which was born in 2023 from the merge of four churches at the heart of the West End of Aberdeen. With 3 different venues in the area (in Beaconsfield Place, in Albyn Place and in Harcourt Road), Fountainhall Church offers a diverse range of spaces to hire for formal and informal events, from professional spaces to hire for business meetings to spacious halls with an exceptional acoustic suitable for big cultural events or gatherings. The fully AV equipped, flexible spaces at Fountainhall Church can accommodate groups from 4 people up to 400 people. In addition, the hirers at Fountainhall Church can also benefit from the hospitality services of Cognito at the Cross, the onsite café.
