Aberdeen-based charity We Too! is actively seeking new trustees to join its board and support its mission of empowering families of children with disabilities.

The organisation is looking for individuals with third-sector experience at a trustee level, leadership skills in business, or a strong passion for fostering inclusivity to contribute to its impactful work. The charity is particularly keen to hear from parent carers who may be interested in shaping the future direction of the charity.

Founded in 2015, We Too! provides practical support, information, and help for families of children with disabilities in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The charity works to remove barriers and ensure families have access to essential resources and services.

Beyond its direct support, We Too! publishes a free quarterly magazine packed with information, support, and inclusive event listings. As the only publication of its kind in Scotland, the magazine reaches a readership of 31,000 across Aberdeen City and Shire. The charity also organises "Relaxed Sessions," which are fully inclusive activities designed for accessibility, making it the leading provider of such sessions in the North-east of Scotland.

The organisation was founded by a local parent who struggled to find accessible activities for her disabled son. What started as a quarterly "What’s On" guide has since evolved into a widely recognised, customer-driven organisation dedicated to empowering parents and carers of children with disabilities.

In recognition of its impact, We Too! received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2020, making it the youngest organisation in the area to receive this prestigious honour. The charity’s dedicated team of volunteers and employees, affectionately known as "ninjas", embodies its mission of approachability and accessibility.

"We’re looking for trustees who care about inclusion and want to help shape the future of We Too!,” said Phionna McInnes, CEO, chief encouragement officer at We Too!. “We’re growing as a charity and taking on exciting new roles, like being named the accessibility lead for the Tall Ships Races in Aberdeen this summer. With the help of new trustees, we can keep building on what we’ve started and make sure even more families feel supported and included.”

Trustees play a critical role in the governance and strategic direction of the charity. They ensure the organisation operates within legal guidelines, aligns with its constitution and charitable objectives, and supports the CEO in delivering on its mission.

No prior trustee experience is required. Full training, support, and induction will be provided. We Too! is a proud signatory of the Volunteer Scotland "Volunteer Charter", reinforcing its commitment to best practices in volunteer engagement.

Individuals interested in helping families of children with disabilities and building an inclusive community are encouraged to get in touch. To express interest, whether formally or informally, email Phionna McInnes at phionna@wetoo.org.uk.

We Too! is committed to diversity and inclusivity and welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences, and proudly holds ‘Disability Confident Leader’ status, awarded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
