A four-figure donation from the Aberdeen Charitable Foundation will allow North-east charity Cash for Kids to provide warm clothing for children in need this winter.
The Foundation’s £2,500 donation will provide a boost to the charity’s Coats for Kids appeal, which provides £50 clothing vouchers to families in financial difficulty to ensure their children are properly protected from harsh winter weather.
The NHS identifies young children as one of the most vulnerable groups in colder weather, recommending that they layer up clothing rather than wearing one thick layer to trap in heat. The vouchers provided by the Coats for Kids appeal will allow hundreds of families across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to provide this for their children, reducing the risk of illness and increasing comfort.
Cash for Kids’ Michelle Ferguson says, “Every year the demand for vouchers increases, and this year is no different. Last year we provided 677, however this year we’ve had over 700 applications meaning we need to raise at least £35,000.
“Each year we see new families approaching us for help, many of which have never been able to provide their children with new clothes before. But it’s not just families from areas of deprivation that seek help – people from all walks of life approach us because of the economic situation which Aberdeen currently finds itself in.
“We are incredibly grateful for the Aberdeen Charitable Foundation’s £2,500 donation, which will provide new, warm clothes for 50 children across the north east of Scotland when they need them the most.”
The Coats for Kids appeal stemmed from the numerous grant requests received by Cash for Kids for help with clothing during winter. Noticing a trend, the charity launched an appeal which has received support from the Aberdeen Charitable Foundation for a number of years.
Claire Drummond, head of charitable giving for the Aberdeen Charitable Foundation, says, “Staying warm in winter is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. The Coats for Kids appeal provides a vital service for families in need in the north east of Scotland, allowing them to provide warmth and security for their children. The Aberdeen Charitable Foundation is committed to aiding people in need in the areas in which our staff live and work, and we are proud to once again support Cash for Kids’ fantastic effort this winter.”
The Aberdeen Charitable Foundation was established in 2012 to formalise and develop the Group’s charitable giving globally. The Foundation seeks partnerships with smaller charities around the world, where funds can be seen to have a meaningful and measurable impact.
