Aberdeen City Council is facing a cost-cutting mission of saving, at least, £23.3m in next year's budget.

Finance chiefs in the Town House have now revealed their list of potential savings, including switching off every second streetlight, cutting funding to Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA), and introducing fees to park at the beach.

But cuts to the Fairer Aberdeen Fund, which supports local charities and foodbanks, have been ruled out.

In an effort to save roughly £1m, the council are considering switching off every other lamppost in the city.

The axe may also fall on street cleaning, maintenance costs and grass cutting, potentially saving more than £500,000.

After escaping the chop last year, Pets Corner at Hazlehead Park faces an uncertain future. Closing the facility would save £54,000.

Permits and brown bin charges may also be increased to recoup some funds, while parking fees could be introduced at Aberdeen beach, adding up to £200,000 to the council coffers.

Also being considered are cuts worth more than £1m to sports organisations, a 25% cut in funding to Aberdeen Sports Village and a similar cut made to funding to APA.

That would see APA - which runs His Majesty's Theatre, the Music Hall and the Lemon Tree - lose out on more than £200,000.
