In the battle against Motor Neurone Disease (MND), community efforts can make a significant impact on the lives of those affected.
A prime example is the partnership between two Aberdeen-based enterprises, nvrmnd XIX clothing brand and Concept Promotional Merchandise, whose collaborative efforts have now raised more than £5,000 to date to support families impacted by MND.
It all began with a simple phone call.
Mark Ferguson (Fergie) reached out to Bob Christie, Concept managing director, to introduce him to his charitable venture, nvrmnd XIX. Inspired by Fergie’s personal journey with the disease, Bob committed £1,000 worth of free stock to kickstart the cause. This initial contribution led to the sale of over 100 garments, laying the groundwork for the project’s success.
Building on this momentum, Concept continued to support the initiative by charging only a minimal net cost for additional garments and providing complimentary embroidery services. With one of the largest embroidery capacities in North-east Scotland, Concept’s experienced team can deliver over 100 garments an hour using their 24 embroidery heads.
Each nvrmnd XIX hoodie, sweatshirt or beanie hat sold generates vital funds and raises awareness about MND, making a tangible difference in the lives of those families living with the disease.
Commenting on the charitable partnership, Bob said: “We are very proud of our involvement in the nvrmnd project, which has highlighted the strength of our community. Every item sold represents hope and solidarity, and we are grateful to be able to play our part in supporting Fergie and this vital cause.”
Mark, diagnosed with MND in January 2023, has transformed his personal struggle into a powerful engine for support and awareness by setting up the nvrmnd XIX clothing brand. As a father of four, he embodies resilience and hope, even amidst the challenges of his illness.
The progression of MND is rapid, and the symptoms, including loss of mobility, speech, and the ability to breathe unaided, make everyday life increasingly difficult. The constant fear of losing control and the inevitable progression of the disease make every day a challenge. However, with Mark’s determination for change and with the backing of local companies such as Concept, the clothing brand is already making a difference.
Reflecting on his journey, Mark said: “After my diagnosis, I vowed to live life to the fullest and help others, despite my illness. This sentiment resonates through the initiative’s fundraising efforts, which not only support research and resources, but also inspire others to join the fight against MND.”
Mark also spoke about his diagnosis and the impact it has had on him and his family in a moving video recorded for MND Scotland.
