Two of Aberdeen City’s independent bars, Molly’s Bistro and Malones Irish Bar are celebrating their success in the recent Best Bar None Awards and the Aberdeen City & Shire Tourism Awards.
Malones Irish Bar on Shiprow recently picked up a Gold award and Best Overall Winner in the ‘Best Independent Bar’ category at the Best Bar None Awards on November 10. This is the third consecutive year the business has picked up this award, a proud accolade for the team. They were recognised for their compliance with the licensing laws, procedure and health and safety.
Molly’s Bistro, on Market Street, joined in the celebrations on the night when they collected a Gold award in the ‘Best Hotel Bar’ category. This was the first year Molly’s had entered and were delighted to have been selected as a finalist. Molly’s Bistro Manageress, Catherine O Shaughnessy picked up the award on behalf of the team and commented ‘It can be difficult for hotel bars to be recognised on their own merits but we are fortunate that the Bistro keeps it’s unique character, warm atmosphere and customer service while adhering to the strict laws that are in place’.
At the Aberdeen City & Shire Tourism Awards on November 27, Malones also went on to pick up the ‘Friendliest Pub\Bar’ award, being recognised for the atmosphere the management and team have created in the authentic Irish bar.
Malones Manager, Keith Martin commented “When we opened Malones in 2009 we wanted to create a bar that visitors and locals would feel welcome in. We have great craic with our customers and see visitors to the city come back and visit us year on year. To be crowned the best independent bar the third year in a row is an outstanding achievement for the team and proof of their hard work and dedication, to then top it off with ‘Friendliest Bar’, well that’s thanks to customers as well, they are the ones that make it what it is’.
Both bars are owned and operated by the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel who also recently celebrated being awarded the four star rating from Visit Scotland for their Royal Athenaeum Suites which opened on Union Street just over a year ago following a £5m refurbishment of the historic restaurant which was formally housed in the building.
