Two of Aberdeen City’s independent bars, Molly’s Bistro and Malones Irish Bar are celebrating their success at this year’s Best Bar None Awards.
Malones Irish Bar on Shiprow picked up the Gold award and Best Overall Winner in the ‘Best Independent Bar’ category for their fourth consecutive year. They were recognised for their compliance with the licensing laws, procedure and health and safety.
Malones Manager, Keith Martin commented “When we opened Malones in 2009 we wanted to create a bar that visitors and locals would feel welcome in. We have great craic with our customers and see visitors to the city come back and visit us year on year. To be crowned the best independent bar the fourth year in a row is an outstanding achievement for the team and proof of their hard work and dedication.
Molly’s Bistro, on Market Street, joined in the celebrations on the night when they collected the Gold award in the ‘Best Hotel Bar’ category. The newly refurbished Molly’s Bistro, entered the awards for the first time in 2015, and are delighted with collecting the Gold for their second year.
Both bars are owned and operated by the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel who hosted the dinner and ceremony for the first time. The Best Bar None is a unique National Award Scheme aimed at raising standards and rewarding licensed premises who undertake positive management practices through an assessment process.
It was piloted in Glasgow in 2005 and found to improve standards in the night time economy, with premises now participating in 58 towns and cities across Scotland. Best Bar None recognises venues who offer a quality experience focusing on safety and customer care.
