A local Indian restaurant will host a special evening of dining this weekend, in support of North-east charity Friends of ANCHOR.

Namaste Delhi, on the city’s Bridge Street, has selected Friends of ANCHOR as the cause it will support this Sunday (November 28) at the restaurant.

Restaurant boss Rajesh Kumar and his wife Stefania Piccardo will donate 20% of the proceeds made on Sunday to Friends of ANCHOR, which directly supports cancer and haematology patients throughout the region.

Mr Kumar said: “We are thrilled at this opportunity to make a difference and support this local charity which does so much in aid of patients who are fighting cancer, research and pioneering equipment.

“We hope that people will join us on Sunday to take part in this fundraising event. There will be our mouth-watering authentic Indian food and some zesty cocktails to enjoy, all in aid of the amazing work this local charity does.”

In addition to serving lip-smacking food that offers a real taste of India, there will be live piano music from Namaste Delhi’s in-house pianist. There will also be a raffle during the evening to raise additional funds for Friends of ANCHOR.

Mr Kumar added: “Raffle tickets will be available to purchase for £1, with a few jaw dropping prizes to be won. We look forward to welcoming customers through our doors on Sunday.”

Erica Banks, communications lead for Friends of ANCHOR, said: “We’re very grateful to Namaste Delhi for choosing to support the cause. As a charity, we are entirely donor-funded and rely on the generosity and kindness of those who donate and fundraise.

“It would be wonderful to see the people of Aberdeen get behind this event on Sunday to enjoy some excellent food for a good cause. With Friends of ANCHOR, every penny of every pound goes directly to the cause as our operating costs are fully covered by Balmoral Group, so diners can enjoy delicious food, knowing the donation that comes to Friends of ANCHOR post-event will do great work.”
