Six the Musical and Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake head up a thrilling line-up of new shows bound for Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre in 2025.
Psychological illusionist Derren Brown will bring his new show Only Human to Aberdeen following a previous sold-out string of shows in the city.
Epic war-time love story Birdsong and gripping drama Girl on the Train will also join the theatre’s 2025 line-up, as well as fan favourite Bat Out of Hell the Musical and the delightfully irreverent Pride and Prejudice (sort of).
Aberdeen Performing Arts Director of Programming and Creative Projects, Ben Torrie, said: “These shows are all bold, unique and above all hugely entertaining – we couldn’t be happier to be adding them to our 2025 line-up.
“Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake is a masterpiece and a must-see, while you are sure to be swept away by the beauty of Birdsong. Six the Musical is a phenomenon of a show which completely sold out when it was here in 2022, so get in early to make sure you don’t miss out!
“Anyone who has seen Derren Brown will know it is a unique and unforgettable experience, and it’s exciting to be bringing him back to His Majesty’s with this brand new show.
“We are thrilled to have Pride and Prejudice (sort of) back for 2025. This is a raucous re-telling of a classic and a great night out is guaranteed!”
Six the Musical comes to His Majesty’s from August 5-9, 2025 following its previous sold-out Aberdeen run.
From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power. These Queens may have green sleeves but their lipstick is rebellious red.
Matthew Bourne's audacious, rule-breaking reinvention of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, Swan Lake, visits from May 28-31. It is the most successful dance theatre production of all time, creating new audiences and inspiring generations of young dancers. Thrilling, bold, witty and emotive, this genre-defining event is still best known for replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered convention, turning tradition on its head.
The multi award-winning master of mind control and psychological illusion, Derren Brown, returns to His Majesty’s Theatre from May 6-10 with his brand new show. The content for Only Human is currently under wraps but guarantees to be a mind blowing experience that will leave audiences stunned.
Birdsong will be at the city theatre from February 18-22. Sebastian Faulks’s epic story of love and loss, adapted by Rachel Wagstaff and directed by Alastair Whatley, tells the story of one man’s journey through an all-consuming love affair and into the horror of the First World War.
In pre-war France, a young Englishman, Stephen Wraysford, embarks on a passionate and dangerous affair with the beautiful Isabelle Azaire that turns their world upside down. As the war breaks out over the idyll of his former life, Stephen must lead his men through the carnage of the Battle of the Somme and through the sprawling tunnels that lie deep underground. Faced with the unprecedented horror of the war Stephen clings to the memory of Isabelle as his world explodes around him.
Gripping thriller Girl on the Train is from June 24-28. Based on the internationally acclaimed number one best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins, it tells the story of Rachel Watson, who longs for a different life. Her only escape is the perfect couple she watches through the train window every day, happy and in love. Or so it appears. When Rachel learns that the woman she’s been secretly watching has suddenly disappeared, she finds herself as a witness and even a suspect in a thrilling mystery in which she will face bigger revelations than she could ever have anticipated.
The award-winning Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical, featuring Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf’s greatest hits, comes to His Majesty’s from March 11-15.
This reimagined show promises to be a thrilling experience, featuring a dynamic eight-piece rock band on stage and sprawling multi-level platforms that will transport you through the diverse worlds of Bat Out of Hell, from Raven’s bedroom to the depths of the Lost’s underground domains. Bat Out of Hell the Musical incorporates iconic songs from the Bat Out of Hell albums, including You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, Bat Out of Hell, I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That) and Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad, as well as the previously unreleased song What Part of My Body Hurts the Most.
As the Lost boys and girls flee into the tunnels below the city from its ruler Falco, his teenage daughter Raven locks eyes with fearless leader of the Lost, the immortal Strat, and the immensity of their love-atfirst-sight-obsessions threaten to destroy both of their families.
Pride and prejudice (sort of) runs from April 29 – May 3.
Direct from its triumph in the West End where it won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy and the Evening Standard Award, Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) returns to Aberdeen by public demand and is a unique and audacious retelling of Jane Austen’s most iconic love story.
Men, money and microphones will be fought over in this irreverent but affectionate adaptation where the stakes couldn’t be higher when it comes to romance. This multi-award-winning
production features a string of pop classics including Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and You’re So Vain.
