As seen in the BBC and The Guardian, The Food Assembly is a local initiative that brings people together to buy fresh food directly from local farmers and food makers.
Every week, Food Assembly customers can order food online from local food producers before picking it up weekly at a local venue. We support Aberdeenshire and Scottish producers. At the Aberdeen Food Assembly, all the food comes from an average distance of 28 miles, compared to the 600 miles with a supermarket.
Community is at the heart of The Food Assembly – it connects neighbours to farmers, neighbours to each other, and everyone to their food. By choosing to buy local, shoppers can support the community of Aberdeen as for every £1 spent through the Aberdeen Food Assembly, 90p stays in the local economy. It also ensures your money reaches the right people; food producers keep over 80% of sales for every product sold, compared to 15%-25% through supermarkets. In addition, there is less food waste as all the food is ordered in advance.
The Aberdeen Food Assembly is organized by a group of food lovers, who enjoy to share their passion for healthy, good and local food with others.
The Aberdeen Food Assembly launches on Foodstory Cafe, in Thistle Street, on Sunday November 27 2016, from 3pm to 5 pm. Foodstory Cafe is no ordinary place. It is a space where anyone of any age and walk of life can eat great, healthy food, whilst feeling part of a community through art and music.
The Food Assembly will be a place where customers collect their online shopping, meet farmers and foodmakers whilst drinking a friendly coffee, tasting food samples and getting to know where their food comes from. We are looking forward seeing you there. To join our assembly please visit www.thefoodassembly.com.
