An Aberdeen restaurant is spreading festive cheer by donating all of its Christmas Day profits to a charity which helps homeless people.
8848 Restaurant, on Union Street, has pledged to give the profit from its Christmas Day takings to Social Bite which helps to feed homeless people across Scotland every day.
8848, an award-winning Indian and Nepalese eatery, is open to the public on Christmas Day from 2pm until 9pm serving food from its set Christmas menu.
Krish Bhetuwal, co-director at 8848, said: “We’ve decided to give our Christmas Day profits to Social Bite as it is a charity that really does make a difference to people.
“Too many people across Scotland are affected by homelessness and the group does a fantastic job at raising awareness and helping to feed people on a daily basis.
“We greatly admire their work and commitment and we want do our bit to help the cause.”
Amanda Robertson, manager at Social Bite in Aberdeen, said: “This is such a generous gesture, one which will go a long way towards helping those who are less fortunate.
“The money raised by 8848 will enable us to continue helping the homeless community throughout the year. We can't thank everyone at 8848 enough.”
8848 already has a number of bookings for Christmas Day meals and is encouraging those who plan on venturing out for dinner to book as soon as possible.
Social Bite is chain of sandwich shops with teams in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. The group uses all of its profits to feed homeless people and raise awareness of homelessness. Around one in four of its staff have struggled with homelessness in the past.
All five Social Bite outlets, including Aberdeen’s Union Street eatery, will be open exclusively to homeless people on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, providing a hot Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.
