Aberdeen International Airport is delighted to announce an investment of over £20m to comprehensively transform its passenger facilities. This represents the greatest single investment in the airport since the existing terminal welcomed its first passengers in 1978.

The new facilities will generate a step change in the quality of passenger experience and deliver a twenty first century terminal the region can be proud of.

Commencing in mid-2016, the three year plan will see the terminal increase in size by 50 per cent and deliver new facilities for immigration, domestic and international baggage reclaim, and security search, as well as business lounges and an exciting new retail and catering layout in the departure lounge.

In order to create space to construct our new extension, it is necessary to temporarily relocate domestic and international baggage reclaims to sites elsewhere. Both facilities will be accommodated in modular structures: domestic reclaim will be located on the terminal's arrivals forecourt adjacent to the main entrance, while international reclaim will be situated on an area currently known as 'stand 4' on the airside apron. These new temporary facilities will come into use in late May, for a period of approximately one year.

International arriving passengers will continue to access the baggage reclaim facility via the international walkway. Instead of proceeding to the existing immigration and baggage reclaim areas, passengers will be directed to the temporary facilities where they will clear immigration and collect any checked baggage.

Toilets will continue to be provided in the temporary facility. Passengers will then proceed to the existing customs area and exit into the main terminal at the same location as they currently do. Friends and family who are meeting international arriving passengers should continue to wait in the same location within the main terminal as they do currently; this will not change.

Domestic arriving passengers will proceed through the departure lounge and exit landslide via the revolving doors, as is currently the case. However, rather than proceeding to the existing domestic reclaim facility, passengers should exit the terminal building via the main exit and turn to the right. The temporary domestic reclaim facility will be located immediately adjacent to the terminal building, roughly 15 seconds walk away.

The staff at Aberdeen International Airport appreciates that these temporary changes to passenger routes may take some time to bed in and emphasise that they will be on hand to provide assistance. Comprehensive signage will be in place to ensure changes to the passenger journey are clear.

Updates will also be posted on the airport's web site and social media channels so please ensure you follow the airport's Twitter and Facebook profiles for the latest information.
