Get to know Scott Melville, Regional Director of Tidy Green Clean Glasgow & West (also Business Development Manager at Tidy Green Clean North!)

1. Tell us a bit about yourself

I have a long-term girlfriend Megan, who I have lived with since 2019 (lucky her!). We have our dogs Ollie and Phoebe, and we live in Aberdeen. Before I bought the Tidy Green Clean Glasgow & West franchise with Hugh and Igors, I was working with Igors as Business Development Manager at Tidy Green Clean Aberdeen North. Prior to that, my main working background was in Utilities, I did general door knocking on the streets and covered corporate clients for the business as well. My main focus was helping businesses reduce their water, electric and gas rates. I have been in Sales/Business Development since I left school at 17.

2. What made you look to Glasgow and a Tidy Green Clean franchise? Why do you think good cleaning is so important?

Glasgow is my favourite city and the potential of a franchise with Tidy Green Clean seemed to bring two brilliant things together in one great opportunity. When I started working with Igors in Aberdeen North, I really enjoyed the fact every day is different. I was originally brought in to do Sales/Business Development, but I quickly got involved in every aspect of the business and when the Glasgow opportunity arose, Igors and I knew we wanted in – and our colleague Hugh (who owns Tidy Green Clean Forth Valley) was keen to partner with us in a second franchise too. Even before the pandemic, I thought that cleaning is the top priority in today’s world; now people everywhere realise how important it is, and how valuable good cleaners because any and every workplace should be seen as a very safe environment and cleanliness is key to this.

I decided to invest in a TGC franchise because of the values around people and the environment. The quality standards are all at ISO level; we employ our cleaners on contracts and try and give them 30-hour weeks if that’s what they want so that they see working with us as a career and not just a job – and we’re an Accredited Living Wage employer and pay Living Wage wherever possible. I have always enjoyed being part of companies where there is room for me to grow and now I get to really challenge myself – and help others grow too. The company is very different to other cleaning companies and is certainly at the forefront of the industry when it comes to innovation which makes it very easy to sell.

3. Why are Tidy Green Clean’s values about people and the environment important to you?

TGC’s values are important to me because the world is moving in the same direction of saving the planet. As a business, we can’t do it ourselves, however we are doing our part to help reduce emissions, cutting down on plastic and using equipment that uses less energy and saves water when cleaning. It is something that everyone will have to do at some point but being part of a company that is now a certified Carbon Zero business makes me feel so proud.

4. What would you like to see happen in the future for you at TGC?

I hope to see TGC be the most successful cleaning company in Scotland, we have a strong core of people here who all have the same mindset. Watch this space!
