At the Urban Wellness Hub, we offer a wide range of treatments and therapies (modalities), probably the greatest choice of modalities all under one roof in the whole of the city and shire. And here are just a few of the most popular ones:
- Australia – Bowen technique
- Japan –Ancient Shiatsu massage
- USA – EFT (emotional freedom technique) a.k.a.
Tapping
- Sweden – probably the best known classic, Swedish massage
- China – Moxibustion and cupping
- Australia – EMMETT technique
- Japan – Reiki
- USA - Float therapy
What they all have in common is their power of relaxation, de-stressing, helping both mind and body, overall wellness, and wellbeing and making you feel brand new again in their own unique way.
Every two weeks, we will highlight one of the above modalities in detail, but below is a concise overview:
Bowen technique – they say people find Bowen after they have tried everything else. In the last five years, Bowen has become more mainstream, listing alongside osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic. Bowen is a clothes-on, non-invasive gentle muscle release treatment. Addressing the root cause of the issue rather than the symptoms.
Back, neck, shoulder, arms, hands, legs, calves, feet, jaw are all addressed using Bowen technique. The testimonials on the website speak for themselves. See more at www.aberdeenbowen.co.uk.
EMMETT – arguably the new kid on the block in the UK. Similar to Bowen with amazingly quick results that happen there and then. No painful joint or bone manipulation, simple, quick yet gentle trigger pressure to the facia for muscle release. There are EMMETT clinics in the USA and Australia such is the popularity of this technique.
Shiatsu - is a Japanese complementary and alternative therapy; a powerful energetic works that involves pressure, mainly hands, and helps alleviate tensions and pain by igniting the self-healing abilities of the body. According to the Japanese healing treatment, Shiatsu (meaning finger pressure) massage uses thumbs, fingers, elbows, and knees to work on pressure points that run along pathways of energy called meridians
The massage restores the flow of energy that when blocked, manifests in aches and pains, muscles tensions, fatigue. Shiatsu may enhance blood flow, improves central nervous and lymphatic systems. It invigorates the person and yet relaxes them by the end of the treatment.
EFT - Emotional freedom technique (EFT) is an alternative treatment for physical pain and emotional distress. It’s also referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure.
People who use this technique believe tapping the body can create a balance in your energy system and treat pain. According to its developer, Gary Craig, a disruption in energy is the cause of all negative emotions and pain.
Though still being researched, EFT tapping has been used to treat people with anxiety and people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Proponents say the tapping helps you access your body’s energy and send signals to the part of the brain that controls stress. They claim that stimulating the meridian points through EFT tapping can reduce the stress or negative emotion you feel from your issue, ultimately restoring balance to your disrupted energy.
Swedish massage - is one of the most commonly available and popular massage techniques. It’s sometimes called classic massage. The technique aims to promote relaxation by releasing muscle tension.
It is gentler than deep tissue massage and better suited for people interested in relaxation and tension relief. It may loosen up tight muscles caused by daily activities such as sitting at the computer or exercising. It can be extremely helpful for people who hold a lot of tension in their lower back, shoulders and neck.
Reiki - Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique. The predominate form of reiki practiced throughout the world today, also known as Usui reiki, was created by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It’s a complementary or alternative health approach. Reiki does not directly cure diseases or illnesses. Instead, it’s used as a way to manage symptoms and improve general wellbeing.
The positive benefits of reiki can enhance your overall well-being. People who had reiki showed improvements to their sleep patterns, self-confidence, and depression levels. They noted a sense of calm, inner peace, and relaxation.
Float Therapy - also known as sensory enhancement, sensory deprivation, isolation tank or its proper name; R.E.S.T. (restrictive environmental stimulation therapy). Significant research has been undertaken and scientific papers written since the 60s and most are pretty conclusive that Floating aids in both mind and body repair. Conditions highlighted include MS, arthritis, joint/bone conditions, injury or post-op recovery, PTSD, anxiety and stress relief.
