Since its establishment in the North-east of Scotland, TotalEnergies had a requirement for a company school to enable the recruitment of an expatriate population to the city.

It turned to the Mission Laïque Française, which had been supporting French companies for over 50 years.

In 2018, the French School joined forced with Albyn School, the renowned Scottish independent school, to offer families a unique bilingual programme.

The 'hybrid programme' on offer involves combining the best of both worlds: the official curriculum of the Scottish National Education system and that of the French National Education system.

The benefits of bilingualism

  • Studies show that speaking a second language can indicate a better adaptability and multitasking ability as individuals constantly switch between languages. This constant linguistic shift stimulates cognitive skills more effectively.
  • Being bilingual can be a significant asset in the job market. Many organisations value employees who can communicate effectively in multiple languages, opening up broader professional opportunities.
  • Bilingualism exposes individuals to different cultures through the languages they learn. This promotes intercultural understanding, respect for diversity, and a broader perspective on the world.
  • Bilingual students often have a better understanding of linguistic structures aiding them in analysing and comprehending grammatical rules and language structures more easily, even in languages they haven't studied.
