When we say that we provide a tailored service here at Bethan, we really mean it! Need our compliance specialists to support you on an ongoing basis? We’re all over it. Looking to collaborate for a one-off project such as a customs health check? That’s our bag too. What about secondments in-house or covering for periods of maternity or sick leave? Absolutely.
In fact our Customs Co-ordinator, Fiona Watt has recently completed a 6-month stint at Stena Drilling, contributing her expertise to a customs compliance project.
Fiona’s enthusiasm for all things compliance related is matched only by her dedication and commitment to getting it right for our clients. She is all about the detail, and quite rightly so.
The project
Stena Drilling engaged with us to provide support for the prompt compliance checking of the company's import paperwork, driven by increased workloads resulting from a surge in imports, ongoing CDS and CMS integrations, as well as the requirement for annual leave and sick cover.
Why Bethan?
Scott Wilson, Warehouse Manager at Stena Drilling, explains why they chose Bethan:
“We reached out to Bethan to support us with this project in part due to their independent status, whereby they can provide us with support irrespective of the freight agent that we use for the declarations.”
We pride ourselves on being an extension of your team, regardless of whether we are working remotely or in-house, and this project was no exception, as Scott says:
“Fiona seamlessly integrated into the team on-site, requiring minimal guidance, enabling us to sustain a fast operational pace. She assumed responsibility for supporting our import compliance, promptly identifying and rectifying any instances of non-compliance. Fiona’s extensive knowledge allowed us to engage in discussions of system efficiencies and enhancements.”
Results driven
As the secondment period drew to a close, Fiona delivered a comprehensive impartial report, detailing areas of risk, cost, and time, along with a thorough analysis of recommendations for future actions.
Scott added:
“This has empowered us as a business to formulate a strategic plan moving forward. The support received precisely met our requirements and aided in demonstrating our compliance to HMRC.”
Reflecting on the experience from her perspective, Fiona said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Stena. Being on the shop floor with a client is very different from being in the office, and I thrived on the interaction between myself and the team.
“The insights I gleaned into the workings of a warehouse and the procedures, from stock control to the shipping of goods, have helped me to understand the supply chain from a client’s perspective. So I have a really useful take on how I can be most helpful to them. Equally, my knowledge provided them with helpful guidance on what was working well and what required some tweaking.
“I’m looking forward to my next assignment!”
