Are you ready to take your business to a new level? The Alternative Board (TAB) offers a practical solution to help you to think beyond your own experiences in a confidential setting that will help you to grow your company
TAB brings together business owners and leaders from non-competing companies to meet in groups of 6-8, similar to a board of directors. The aim is to discuss issues, opportunities and challenges that are faced in the day-to-day running of a business and for each individual to get practical, real-world insights and advice from the other members, based on their own experiences.
It can be lonely when you are the boss but having other like-minded business leaders to share experience, wisdom and impartial advice saves time, money and ensures that you make better decisions for yourself and your business.
What sort of businesses join TAB?
The great thing about TAB is the variety. From oil and gas to software companies, digital marketing, property management, service providers, retailers or recruitment, even occupational health, TAB really does cover most sectors. Each board is made up of non-competing businesses and we try to get a variety of skills and backgrounds to ensure that we can find good advice on most situations. What TAB members have in common is the wish to grow their businesses, the desire to avoid costly mistakes and the realisation that as individuals they don’t have all the answers.
What issues are normally discussed?
Members can bring pretty much any topic to the board meeting. It could be something strategic or it may be something simply related to the day-to-day running of the business. Specific examples could be advice on a new sales or marketing plan, cashflow problems, use of social media or e-marketing, remuneration or incentive policies for staff, dealing with difficult HR problems or advice on a business opportunity that a member is considering investing in. Whatever the topic, members get candid advice that helps them make better decisions.
How do you become a TAB member?
We carefully select individuals to join our Boards, and we would expect any business leader to be just as selective about deciding to join TAB. We generally meet prospective new members for a brief discussion to explore how we could both benefit from working together. If that goes well, and we both agree that membership makes sense we offer a 90 day guarantee so that new members can experience all the benefits of TAB at no risk.
