Greyhope Bay has launched a new phase in its long-term development to create an environmentally friendly zero-waste and plastic neutral dolphin watching centre at the Torry Battery. Dolphins at the Battery invites local businesses, communities and individuals to support the project by signing up to one of the recently announced membership packages which are being communicated through a brand new website.
Dolphins at the Battery will open its doors to the public in Spring 2020 and will breathe new life into the Torry Battery. The project will enhance the experience already found at this historic monument, a place where local people and visitors alike come to experience dolphin watching, panoramic city, beach and harbour views, a historic ruin, biking and walking.
Three foundational investors have already signed up as Greyhope Admiral members, and have collectively raised over £42,000 in a matter of weeks. Dr Fiona McIntyre, managing director of Greyhope Bay said, “Dolphins at the Battery is a new wildlife experience that has never been seen before in the North-east. We are entirely community-led and would love to invite more local people to support this exciting project that has the long term environmental protection and sustainability of our wildlife at its heart. We’ve had an incredible response to our fundraising so far, and just £150,000 more will allow us to open in Spring 2020.
The facility will bring a glass-fronted centre, cafe, outdoor walkways, seating, decking, heritage interpretation, wildlife sightings board, live marine mammal acoustic soundings, marine science exhibits, artistic landscape interventions, schools programme, food markets, festivals, guided tours and community-hosted events.
